Confidence

"They say what goes up, must come down, but DON'T LET ME FALL."

In the paragraphs ahead, prepare yourself with tolerance for the word CONFIDENCE. I have come to recognize the importance of the term and I would like to share a portion of my own enlightenment with you. I want to iterate that the purpose of this blog is not meant to be brilliant or groundbreaking but rather to encourage the reader.

How important of a role does confidence play in our lives? I propose that confidence is the missing link for too many lives and the roles they play in society. Confidence  is often mistaken for arrogance, but those who lack confidence will be overlooked and be stripped of a voice in their work, school and relationships in general.

You must be confident in your opinions and you should never fear speaking what you feel to be solid truth. You must be confident in your work and never doubt yourself and your abilities. Sometimes, job opportunities, high test scores, winning a game, and being successful comes down to confidence. You MUST be confident in yourself.

When others try to bring you down or make you feel inferior, you need to hold your head up in confidence. You cannot let what others say affect how you perceive yourself. You must wake up each morning with ambition to succeed and you must ready yourself with confidence even when you face opposition. It is much better to not speak at all rather than speaking with uncertainty in your voice. However, you must keep in mind that you should never be confident in something that you are not qualified to be confident in. Never be confident you have the answers when you have not researched the topic thoroughly.

The power that confidence brings has been on my mind a lot lately. Though I am not a huge fan of hip-hop music, there is one thing to gain from the genre..... confidence. I have gained respect for individuals like Kanye West for their unrelenting confidence. West has always proven that he is sure of himself. He has held his head high through controversy and proven that he really doesn't care how others perceive him. West is confident and this has ultimately brought about his success.

While on the subject of confidence and it's relativity to hip-hop music, I have become enthralled by B.O.B's display of confidence. I have listened to the song "Don't Let Me Fall" everyday for nearly a month straight. There is so much power within the lyrics:

"it was just a dream, just a moment ago,
I was up so high, looking down at the sky
Don't let me fall.... They say what goes up
Must come down, but don't let me fall"

The song continues to tell of Bobby Ray's rags to riches story and how what once seemed to be a dream became reality. While this may seem so simplistic, I assure that confidence is easily obtained and of very great importance. Music is often a great way to ready oneself with confidence at the beginning of each day. With an exception of Brand New's album "Daisy," I am certain that Kanye West's "My Dark Twisted Fantasy" is the best album of the decade and this is due to his display of confidence. With that much self-assurance "one man does deserve all that power."

In preparation for a career as a nurse, you are taught the importance of confidence. You must always be sure of yourself and your abilities before you can convince patients that they are going to be well taken care of. You must speak with confidence, not only to your patients, but to other nurses, doctors and advisors. As a nursing student or a graduate, you must prove to co-workers that you are well prepared and that you will not easily be deterred. Nursing is a very competitive field and the first link to superiority is confidence.

I know that I have been speaking mostly of confidence but one must realize that positivity is often interchangeable. It is important that we look through positive eyes and that we fight negativity and individuals that stand in our path. We are superior to those that stand in our way and we will not let them hinder us from reaching our goals. We are triumphant!

In conclusion, I hope you find that confidence, power and success often lies within the mind. We just have to believe in ourselves and adjust our attitudes in preparation for success. Now get ready to prevail.
